Who Is Orbiting Whom?

“Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.”Philippians 2:4 (KJV)

There are two ways a father can get his health wrong. One lets it slide for years, and slowly has less energy and fewer good years to give his family. The other never misses a workout, and his family has learned to arrange their lives around his training.

Both can look like love on the surface. One says, I’m too busy providing. The other says, I’m staying strong for them. The question that sorts them out is simple: is my health serving my family, or is my family serving my routine?

Paul’s word for the whole of life applies here: “Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.” And, “See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time.”

Care for your body. It is a gift. Just keep checking which way the orbit runs.

Read it yourself

Read Philippians 2:3–8. What did Christ do that Paul tells us to have in our own minds?

Reflect

Does your family make room for your routines, or do your routines make room for your family?

Pray

Lord, help me care for my body in a way that serves the people you’ve given me. Amen.

Every verse is quoted from the King James Bible and checked word for word. Open your Bible beside it and count it yourself.
