Think of the One

“Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.”2 Corinthians 1:4 (KJV)

Maybe you have a story that could help someone. How God carried you through grief, addiction, a failing marriage or deep doubt. But every time you think of sharing it, you picture all the people who might judge you, and you stay quiet.

Here is another way to think about it. Picture the one person who is where you were. Alone, struggling, sure nobody understands. Your story might be exactly what they need to hear.

Paul says God “comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.” The comfort you received wasn’t meant to stop with you.

Sometimes silence is humility. Sometimes it is self-protection. “The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.” Think of the one, not the crowd, and let God use what he brought you through.

Read it yourself

Read 2 Corinthians 1:3–7. What does Paul call God in verse 3?

Reflect

Who is the one person your story could help?

Pray

God of all comfort, use what you have brought me through to comfort someone else. Free me from the fear of man. Amen.
