The Fake Freedom
“For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.”Galatians 5:13 (KJV)
Doing whatever you want, whenever you want, sounds like freedom. It feels like it too, for a while. But living by every impulse is its own kind of slavery. The phone decides when you look at it. The craving decides when you eat. Your mood decides how you treat people.
Jesus said it plainly: “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.” Then he offered the real thing: “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”
Real freedom has a direction. Paul says, “For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.” We are freed from sin so we can love.
Discipline isn’t the opposite of freedom. It builds the space where freedom can grow: room for your marriage, your family, your time with God.

Read John 8:31–36. What does Jesus say will make you free?
Where are you calling something freedom that is really a kind of slavery?
Lord Jesus, make me free indeed. Help me use my freedom to love and serve. Amen.
