The Expensive Way to Learn
“A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.”Proverbs 22:3 (KJV)
There are two ways to learn about money. You can learn the expensive way, by making the mistakes yourself. Or you can learn from people who already made them and are willing to tell you.
Many people who have lost a lot will say the same thing: they saw warning signs, and kept going anyway. Pride, fear or plain stubbornness kept them on a path they knew was wrong.
Proverbs says, “A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.” Wisdom sees the danger and adjusts. And Paul says the Bible’s own stories were written so we wouldn’t have to repeat them: “Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition.”
Ask someone older and wiser about their money mistakes. Read the warnings in Scripture. Learning the cheap way is still a lesson.
Read it yourself
Read 1 Corinthians 10:1–12. What warning does Paul give in verse 12?
Who could you learn from before you make an expensive mistake?
Lord, give me a prudent heart. Help me learn from others and from your word. Amen.
