Money for What Isn’t Bread
“Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.”Isaiah 55:2 (KJV)
Isaiah asks a question that cuts right to the heart of spending: “Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not?”
We all know the feeling. The purchase that was exciting for a day. The upgrade that didn’t change anything. The long hours poured into something that left us emptier. We keep reaching for things that can’t feed the soul.
Isaiah doesn’t just scold. He invites: “hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.” And Jesus says plainly where that food is: “I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger.”
Before your next purchase or your next late night, ask Isaiah’s question. Is this bread? Or is it something that won’t satisfy? Then come to the one who does.

Read Isaiah 55:1–3. What does God invite those without money to come and do?
What have you been spending money or effort on that doesn’t satisfy?
Lord Jesus, you are the bread of life. Help me stop spending myself on what can’t satisfy. Amen.
