Why Should This Still Exist?

“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”1 Corinthians 15:58 (KJV)

Every business, ministry and job hits a season where quitting would be easier. The numbers are bad, the people are tired, and selling out or walking away starts to look like wisdom. Sometimes it is.

But it helps to ask a better question first. Not, how do I get out of this? Ask, why should this still exist? Who does it serve? What good does it do that wouldn’t happen without it?

When the purpose is bigger than the trouble, the trouble becomes bearable. Paul ends his great chapter on the resurrection with a word for workers: “be ye stedfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”

Not in vain. That is the key. If your work serves people and honours God, it isn’t wasted, even in a hard season. Write down why your work matters. Then keep that page close for the days you want to quit.

Read it yourself

Read 1 Corinthians 15:51–58. Why does Paul say our labour is not in vain? Look at what comes right before verse 58.

Reflect

Why should your work still exist? Who would miss it if it didn’t?

Pray

Lord, help me remember why my work matters. Keep me stedfast, and let my labour not be in vain. Amen.
