When You Don’t Feel It
“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;”Ephesians 5:25 (KJV)
If you only love your spouse when you feel like it, your love will be about as steady as your mood. Some days it will be great. Some days it will disappear. No marriage can stand on that.
Love in scripture is a commitment that acts. “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it.” Christ didn’t give himself because the church was lovely at the time.
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” He loved us at our worst, when there was nothing in us to make him feel it. That is the pattern.
On the days you don’t feel loving, do the loving thing anyway. Speak kindly. Serve. Stay. Feelings often follow faithfulness, but faithfulness doesn’t wait for them.
