What Time Would You Go Home?
“But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”Luke 12:20–21 (KJV)
Here’s a question to sit with. If you truly believed God would provide, and the barns were already full enough, what time would you go home tonight?
Jesus told the story of a man whose fields did so well he had nowhere to put it all. So he planned bigger barns and told his soul to take it easy. “But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?”
The man’s problem wasn’t the harvest. It wasn’t even the barns. Jesus names it: “So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.” He planned his whole future around himself, and left God out.
Saving is wise. Working hard is good. But ask what “enough” really is, and whether you are rich toward God or only toward the barn.
Read it yourself
Read Luke 12:13–21. What question started the story, and what warning does Jesus give in verse 15?
What would being rich toward God look like in your finances this month?
Lord, keep me from planning my life around myself. Make me rich toward you. Amen.
