What the Scroll Is Really Feeding

“Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.”Isaiah 55:2 (KJV)

It is late. You’re tired, and you pick up your phone for a minute. An hour later you’re still scrolling, and you feel worse than when you started. Or it is the fridge, or another episode. Whatever it is, it promised relief and gave you very little.

Most of those habits are cheap relief for something deeper. We are hungry for rest, or comfort, or approval, and we grab whatever is closest. Trying to stop by willpower alone often just pushes the hunger underground.

God asks the right question: “Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.”

Jesus offers what the scroll can’t: “I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger.” Next time you reach for the phone, ask what you are really hungry for, and bring that to him.

Read it yourself

Read Isaiah 55:1–3. What does God invite the thirsty to do, and what does it cost?

Reflect

What deeper hunger sends you to your phone, the fridge or the screen?

Pray

Lord Jesus, you are the bread of life. Feed the hunger in me that nothing else satisfies. Amen.
