What Does It Profit a Driven Dad?

“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”Mark 8:36 (KJV)

Imagine checking off every goal on your list. The business grew, the numbers hit, the house got bigger. But in all those years you never once prayed with your kids or opened the Bible with them. What was it all for?

Jesus asked a version of that question: “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” It is a question about your own soul first. But a father has to ask it about his children’s souls too.

Paul gives fathers a clear job: “bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” Not just provide for them. Bring them up in the Lord.

That doesn’t take a seminary degree. It takes showing up: praying at the table, reading a few verses at bedtime, letting them see you love God. Of all the goals on your list, this is the one that lasts.

Read it yourself

Read Mark 8:34–38. What does Jesus say a man would give in exchange for his soul?

Reflect

What is one small way you could lead your family toward God this week?

Pray

Father, I don’t want to gain the world and lose what matters. Help me bring my children up in you. Amen.

Every verse is quoted from the King James Bible and checked word for word. Open your Bible beside it and count it yourself.
