The Roof That Cost Twice
“The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.”Proverbs 14:15 (KJV)
Picture a young couple who take a great deal from a door-to-door roofer. Fast, cheap, done in a day. A week later there are nails in the yard and water in the bedroom, and the crew has vanished under a different name. By the time a reliable company fixes it, they have paid about what it would have cost to do it right the first time.
Proverbs saw this coming: “The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.” A good deal that comes knocking with pressure to decide today is often not a good deal.
And again: “The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.” Hurry is expensive. Slowing down to ask questions, check references and pray before you sign is part of being a good steward.
Wisdom with money isn’t only about how much you spend. It is about how carefully you decide. The prudent look before they leap, and that usually costs less in the end.
Read it yourself
Read Proverbs 14:12–16. What does verse 12 say about a way that seemeth right?
Is there a money decision in front of you that you are being pushed to make in a hurry?
Lord, give me wisdom with what you have given me. Make me prudent, not hasty. Amen.
