The Day Starts at Night
“He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.”Psalm 121:3–4 (KJV)
In Genesis, each day of creation’s work runs evening first, then morning. The day begins with the dark. In a sense, your day starts when you fall asleep, and you wake up into a day God has already been working on.
That is good news for tired bodies in a busy season. Sleep is not wasted time. It is a daily act of trust. You lie down and admit you can’t hold the world together for the next eight hours. Someone else can. “He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.”
Even Jesus slept. In the middle of a storm, “he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow.” He had a real body that got tired, and he rested it.
In December it is easy to steal from sleep to get more done. Care for the body God gave you. Go to bed tonight trusting that the one who keeps you is awake.

Read Psalm 121. List every way the psalm says the LORD keeps you.
Do you treat sleep as wasted time or as a way to trust God?
Lord, you never slumber. Tonight I lay down my work and trust you to keep me. Amen.
