He Is Our Peace

“And if his oblation be a sacrifice of peace offering, if he offer it of the herd; whether it be a male or female, he shall offer it without blemish before the LORD.”Leviticus 3:1 (KJV)

Leviticus 3 describes the peace offering. “And if his oblation be a sacrifice of peace offering… he shall offer it without blemish before the LORD.” Peace with God came through a spotless sacrifice.

Isaiah saw what that offering pointed to. “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him.” Our peace was paid for by someone else’s suffering.

Paul says it plainly. “For he is our peace, who hath made both one.” And to the Colossians, he wrote that Christ made “peace through the blood of his cross.” Jesus doesn’t only give peace. He is our peace.

At Christmas the angels sang, “on earth peace, good will toward men.” That peace wasn’t a feeling in the air. It was a person in a manger, who would one day become the true peace offering. You can have peace with God today, because he paid for it.

Read it yourself

Read Ephesians 2:13–18. What does Paul say Christ broke down, and what did he make?

Reflect

Is there anything keeping you from enjoying the peace with God that Christ has already made?

Pray

Lord Jesus, you are my peace. Thank you for bearing the chastisement I deserved. Amen.
