Teach Them to Chew
“As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:”1 Peter 2:2 (KJV)
Imagine handing a newborn a bottle, setting it on the nursery floor and walking away. No one would do that. Yet that is often how we treat new believers. We give them a Bible, tell them to read it, and leave them on their own.
Peter says new believers are hungry: “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby.” And Hebrews shows what happens when no one helps them grow: “ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God.”
Growth in faith was never meant to be a solo project. Paul told Timothy, “the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.” Someone taught you. Now you teach someone else.
Is there a younger believer in your life? Don’t just hand them a Bible. Sit down and read it with them.
Read it yourself
Read Hebrews 5:12–14. Who does the writer say strong meat belongs to?
Who taught you to read and understand the Bible? Who could you help in the same way?
Lord, thank you for the people who helped me grow. Show me someone I can help grow too. Amen.
