Remembered Before the LORD

“And if ye go to war in your land against the enemy that oppresseth you, then ye shall blow an alarm with the trumpets; and ye shall be remembered before the LORD your God, and ye shall be saved from your enemies.”Numbers 10:9 (KJV)

When Israel went to war, God gave them silver trumpets and a promise. “And if ye go to war in your land against the enemy that oppresseth you, then ye shall blow an alarm with the trumpets; and ye shall be remembered before the LORD your God, and ye shall be saved from your enemies.”

The trumpet was a cry for help, and God promised to remember. Centuries later, an old priest named Zacharias held his newborn son John and praised God with almost the same words. God had raised up salvation in the house of David, “That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us; To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant.”

Remembered. Saved from enemies. The promise of the trumpet came true in Christ.

When you cry out to God, you are not shouting into empty air. He remembers his covenant, and he remembers you.

Count it yourself

The words “saved from your enemies” are written once in the KJV (Numbers 10:9), and “saved from our enemies” once (Luke 1:71).

Reflect

What battle are you in right now that you need to cry out to God about?

Pray

Lord, I cry out to you. Remember me, and save me from what oppresses me. Thank you for keeping your covenant in Christ. Amen.
