Peace That Lets You Sit Still
“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”Philippians 4:6–7 (KJV)
Picture someone who can never sit still. Five minutes of quiet and their mind races to the next task, the next problem, the next thing to control. They try to pray and end up making lists.
Often the restlessness isn’t really about busyness. It is about control. If I stop thinking about it, something will go wrong.
Paul gives a better way: “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Peter says the same: “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
When you let go of control and hand things to God, something changes. The mind can rest, because someone else is holding what you put down. Try it today: name what you’re gripping, give it to him, and sit still for a few minutes.
Read it yourself
Read Philippians 4:4–7. What does Paul say to do always, and what does he say is at hand?
What are you trying to control that is keeping you from rest?
Lord, I cast my cares on you because you care for me. Let your peace keep my heart and mind. Amen.
