Out-Talk the World

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”Proverbs 22:6 (KJV)

Your kids are going to hear the world’s voice. On their phones, at school, from friends, in every song and show. You can’t keep it out completely, and hiding them from it forever isn’t the goal anyway.

But you can make sure they hear the truth more often than they hear anything else. Paul reminded Timothy, “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” Someone put those scriptures in front of him when he was small.

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Training is daily and repetitive. A verse at breakfast. A prayer at bedtime. A conversation in the car about something they saw.

And words aren’t the only teacher. Let them see how a Christian loves: how you treat your spouse, how you speak about people who disagree with you, how you handle being wrong. Arm them with truth, in words and in life.

Read it yourself

Read 2 Timothy 3:14–17. What does Paul say scripture is profitable for?

Reflect

Whose voice do your kids hear most often in a normal week?

Pray

Lord, help me fill my home with your truth, in what I say and in how I live. Arm my children with your word. Amen.

Every verse is quoted from the King James Bible and checked word for word. Open your Bible beside it and count it yourself.
