On the Hand and Between the Eyes

“And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.”Deuteronomy 6:8 (KJV)

Moses told Israel to keep God’s words close: “And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.” The hand is what you do. The forehead is what you think. God wanted his word on both.

Revelation shows the counterfeit. The beast “causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads.” The enemy wants the same two places: what you do and what you think.

But Revelation also shows the Lamb’s people, standing with him on mount Sion, “having his Father’s name written in their foreheads.” And at the very end, in the new creation, “they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.”

Every day, something is writing on your hands and your mind. Let it be his word. The question isn’t whether you will be marked by something. It is whose name you will carry.

Read it yourself

Read Deuteronomy 6:4–9. Where else, besides the hand and the forehead, does God tell Israel to put his words?

Reflect

What has been shaping your hands and your thoughts most this week?

Pray

Lord, write your word on my hands and your name on my mind. I belong to the Lamb. Amen.
