One Degree Off

“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”Galatians 6:7 (KJV)

A plane that leaves the runway one degree off course doesn’t feel wrong in the cabin. The drinks get served, the movie plays. But after a few hours it lands miles from where it meant to go.

Small drifts work the same way with God. Skipping time in his word once doesn’t feel like anything. Neither does the second time, or the tenth. Hebrews warns about exactly this: “Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.” Slipping is quiet.

Paul puts it plainly: “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” Small habits are seeds. They grow into something, one way or the other.

The good news is that course corrections are small too. One degree back today, and you’ll land somewhere very different.

Read it yourself

Read Galatians 6:7–10. What two kinds of sowing does Paul describe, and what does he say not to grow weary in?

Reflect

Where have you drifted a degree or two this month? What small correction could you make today?

Pray

Lord, keep me from drifting. Help me give earnest heed to your word, one day at a time. Amen.
