No Other Gods, Not Even the Gym
“Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”Exodus 20:3 (KJV)
Here is a common story. Someone gets serious about training, makes real progress, and starts pushing for heavier and heavier lifts. Then the injury comes. And the moment they can walk again, they are back under the bar, chasing the same number, until it happens again.
When we can’t stop even when it hurts us, something good has become something ultimate. The first commandment still applies: “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” Anything can take that place, even a healthy habit.
Your body matters to God. “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you… For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.” But a temple is built for worship. It isn’t the thing worshipped.
Train, compete and enjoy it. Just keep asking who it is for.

Read 1 Corinthians 9:24–27. What kind of crown does Paul say he is running for?
Is there a good thing in your life that you couldn’t give up if God asked you to?
Lord, you alone are God. Keep my good habits in their place, and let my body glorify you. Amen.
