No Spotlight for Us
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”Ephesians 2:8–9 (KJV)
Grace can be offensive. To someone who has worked hard to be good, it sounds unfair that the worst sinner can be saved the same way they are. Grace leaves no spotlight on us.
That is exactly the point. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” If salvation came by works, we would get the credit. Grace gives all the credit to God.
Paul says God chose the weak and the foolish on purpose: “That no flesh should glory in his presence.” Nobody will stand in heaven and point to their own record.
That is freeing. You don’t have to perform for God or measure yourself against others. The spotlight is on Jesus, where it belongs. Step out of it and rest.
Read it yourself
Read 1 Corinthians 1:26–31. If we glory, who does Paul say we should glory in?
Where do you still want a little credit for your salvation?
Lord, I bring nothing but my need. All the glory belongs to you. Amen.
