Never Full

“Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.”Proverbs 27:20 (KJV)

Solomon used a striking picture: “Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.” Like the grave, our eyes keep swallowing and keep asking for more.

That is exactly how chasing milestones works. We promise ourselves we will rest when we hit the next number, the next title, the next level. Then we get there, and the target moves. The rest never comes, because the eyes are never full.

The way out isn’t hitting a bigger milestone. It is finding contentment now. “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”

Notice the reason for contentment. Not that you have enough stuff, but that you have him. If God has promised never to leave you, you can rest today, before the next milestone. You already have the thing that fills.

Read it yourself

Read Hebrews 13:5–8. What does verse 6 say we can boldly say because of God’s promise?

Reflect

What milestone have you been telling yourself would finally let you rest?

Pray

Lord, my eyes are never satisfied, but you are enough. Teach me to be content because you are with me. Amen.
