You Don’t Need to Be an Expert

“At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.”Matthew 11:25 (KJV)

Some believers feel like frauds. They sit in church next to people who can quote whole chapters, and they wonder if they really belong. They know so little. Surely real Christians know more.

Salvation was never a test of knowledge. Jesus thanked his Father for this very thing: “I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.” The gospel is simple enough for a child.

The man born blind in John 9 couldn’t answer the experts’ questions. But he knew one thing: “one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.” That was enough. He knew what Jesus had done for him.

Grow in knowledge. Read, study, ask questions. But don’t think you have to earn your place by it. Knowledge comes after the gift, not before.

Read it yourself

Read John 9:24–38. What did the man say when Jesus asked if he believed on the Son of God?

Reflect

What is the “one thing” you know about what Jesus has done for you?

Pray

Lord, I don’t know everything, but I know you saved me. Help me grow, and help me rest in your grace. Amen.

Every verse is quoted from the King James Bible and checked word for word. Open your Bible beside it and count it yourself.
