Worthy Is the Lamb
“He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.”Isaiah 53:7 (KJV)
Isaiah saw him coming: “he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.” John the Baptist pointed him out: “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”
Then the Bible’s last book takes that title and fills its pages with it. The book of Revelation calls him the Lamb again and again. In heaven the crowd cries out, “Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.”
Revelation even says the Lamb was “slain from the foundation of the world.” The cross was not God’s backup plan. Before the first page of Genesis, the Lamb was already the plan.
When the book of Revelation pulls back the curtain on the end of all things, the one on the throne isn’t pictured first as a warrior or a judge. He is the Lamb who was slain. That is the one we will worship forever.
Count it yourself
“the Lamb” appears 24 times in Revelation and 38 times in the whole Bible, so Revelation has more than the rest of the Bible put together.
What does it mean to you that heaven’s worship centres on the Lamb who was slain?
Worthy is the Lamb that was slain. Lord Jesus, receive my praise today. Amen.
