Where Is the Lamb?
“And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering? And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.”Genesis 22:7–8 (KJV)
On the way up Mount Moriah, Isaac asked his father a question that hangs over the rest of the Bible. “Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?”
Abraham answered by faith: “My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.” That day God provided a ram caught in a thicket. But Isaac’s question stayed open for centuries.
Then one day by the Jordan, a prophet saw a man walking toward him. “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”
Where is the lamb? Here he is. God did provide himself a lamb, just as Abraham said. Every sacrifice before was a pointer. Jesus is the answer to the question the whole Old Testament was asking.

Read Genesis 22:1–14 and John 1:29–34. What name did Abraham give the place in Genesis 22:14?
What does it mean to you that God himself provided the Lamb?
Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world. Thank you that God provided you for me. Amen.
