What If You Have It Already?

“Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.”Philippians 4:11–12 (KJV)

Many of us are working toward a number. Once we reach it, we’ll finally be free. Free to rest, free to enjoy our family, free to serve. But what if the number keeps moving? And what if some of that freedom is already available today?

Paul found a freedom money couldn’t buy or take away. “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound.”

He learned it. Contentment wasn’t a personality trait. It was something he practised. And Hebrews gives the reason it is possible: “be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”

Plan wisely for the future. But don’t miss the gifts of today while you chase a number that might never come.

Read it yourself

Read Philippians 4:10–13. What does Paul say he can do through Christ?

Reflect

What freedom are you waiting for that might already be available to you today?

Pray

Lord, teach me to be content. You will never leave me nor forsake me. That is enough. Amen.
