Wearied With His Journey
“Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.”John 4:6 (KJV)
At the end of a long year, a lot of us are running on fumes. We push through anyway, because rest feels like weakness. But look at Jesus at a well in Samaria.
“Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well.” The Son of God got tired. He had a real body with real limits, and he sat down when it needed to.
That means your weariness is not foreign to him. “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” He knows what a long road feels like in the legs and in the heart.
Honouring your body’s limits isn’t unspiritual. It is human, and Jesus was fully human. Sit down at the well this week. And while you sit, notice who he might bring to you there, the way he did that day in Samaria.
Read it yourself
Read John 4:1–14. What did Jesus offer the woman at the well while he sat there tired?
What limit has your body been asking you to respect?
Lord Jesus, you were wearied with your journey. Thank you for understanding mine. Help me rest, and meet me at the well. Amen.
