The Ripple of an Ordinary Tuesday

“And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.”Matthew 10:42 (KJV)

We usually think of mission as something big: a calling, a ministry, a move overseas. That is part of it. But most of the mission happens on an ordinary Tuesday, in how we use our time, our money and our energy around the people right in front of us.

Jesus put a promise on the smallest act. “And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.” A cup of water. Nothing is too small to count with him.

And small things ripple. A kind word to a coworker, patience with a customer, an encouraging text. You may never see where it goes. But “One generation shall praise thy works to another.” Faith is passed along one ordinary moment at a time.

Your life may look small to you. Don’t underestimate what God can do with a faithful Tuesday.

Read it yourself

Read Matthew 10:40–42. Who does Jesus say receives him?

Reflect

Who is one person you could serve in a small way at work this week?

Pray

Lord, use my ordinary days. Let small acts of love done in your name ripple further than I can see. Amen.

Every verse is quoted from the King James Bible and checked word for word. Open your Bible beside it and count it yourself.
