The Man Who Never Hurried
“And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?”Mark 5:30 (KJV)
Jesus carried the heaviest mission anyone has ever carried, and he had only a few years to do it. Yet the Gospels never show him in a hurry. He was always on his way somewhere, and always willing to stop.
On the way to heal a dying girl, pressed by a crowd, he stopped. “And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?” One woman mattered enough to pause for.
Passing through Jericho, he stopped under a tree. “Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.” A crowded schedule never crowded out a person.
Isaiah wrote of the one who trusts God’s sure foundation: “he that believeth shall not make haste.” Holy Week is coming. Before it does, ask yourself what your hurry is costing the people you say you are hurrying for.
Read it yourself
Read Mark 5:21–43. What two people did Jesus help, and what happened while he stopped for the first?
Who has your hurry been passing by lately?
Lord Jesus, you were never too busy for one person. Slow me down, and help me see the people in front of me. Amen.
