The Exam Doesn’t Create the Weakness
“If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.”Proverbs 24:10 (KJV)
Nobody learns the material on the day of the exam. The test only shows what you already studied, or didn’t. Hard days work the same way in the life of faith.
Proverbs says, “If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.” Adversity doesn’t create our weakness. It reveals the practice we skipped when things were easy.
Look at Daniel. When he learned the decree was signed that could get him thrown to the lions, “he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.” As he did aforetime. The crisis didn’t create his prayer life. It revealed it.
What you practise behind closed doors on quiet days is what will hold you up when hard days come. Start the habit today, before you need it.
Read it yourself
Read Daniel 6:1–10. What did Daniel’s enemies say about him in verse 5?
If a hard day came tomorrow, what habits of faith would you have to lean on?
Lord, make me faithful on the quiet days, so that I’m ready for the hard ones. Amen.
