The Bigger Cheque or the Better Years

“Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.”Proverbs 15:16 (KJV)

Picture a family with a business opportunity that looks almost certain to pay off. Just a few more years of effort. The catch is that it drains them in exactly the years their kids are small and need them most.

Some families take the deal and win. Some take it and find they missed the years they can’t buy back. Others turn it down, take the smaller cheque, and choose to be present. Scripture doesn’t make that choice for you, but it does weigh in on what matters.

“Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.” And Jesus asked a question that applies to more than our souls: “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”

Before you say yes to the next big opportunity, count all the costs. Some of them won’t show up on a spreadsheet.

Read it yourself

Read Proverbs 15:16–17. What does verse 17 say is better than a stalled ox with hatred?

Reflect

Is there an opportunity in front of you that would cost your family more than it pays?

Pray

Lord, give me wisdom to count the real costs. Help me choose what is better, even when it is less. Amen.

Every verse is quoted from the King James Bible and checked word for word. Open your Bible beside it and count it yourself.
