Stored Up in Summer
“Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.”Proverbs 6:6–8 (KJV)
Picture someone who trains steadily for years. Then a hard season hits: a crisis at work, a sick family member, a long stretch of little sleep. Their training drops off. But because they built a base when life was calmer, their body carries them through the hard months.
That is the wisdom of the ant. “Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.”
The ant prepares in the good season for the hard one. Caring for your body works the same way. Rest, movement and good food in the easier seasons build a reserve for the seasons that are anything but easy.
You don’t need a perfect program. But if you are in a summer season, store something up. Winter comes for everyone.
Read it yourself
Read Proverbs 6:6–11. What does the ant do without anyone telling her to?
What could you store up now, in body or soul, for a harder season later?
Lord, give me the wisdom of the ant. Help me use the good seasons well. Amen.
