Payments on a Paid-Off Loan
“Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;”Colossians 2:14 (KJV)
Imagine paying off your house and then continuing to send the bank a payment every month, because deep down you can’t believe the debt is really gone. It sounds silly. But a lot of overwork looks like that.
Some of us work late into the night as if we are still paying for something. As if our worth, our acceptance, our place before God has to be earned again every week. Without noticing, we run a second, smaller salvation beside the real one.
Paul says the real debt has been dealt with. Christ came “Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross.” Jesus said it from the cross: “It is finished.”
Work hard because you love the work and the people it serves. But stop making payments on a loan that has been paid. You are free to rest.

Do you ever work like you are still trying to pay something off? What would change if you believed it was finished?
Lord Jesus, you paid it all. Help me stop working to earn what you already finished. Amen.
