One Brick Today
“He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.”Proverbs 25:28 (KJV)
Proverbs paints a picture of a person without self-control. “He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.” Anything can walk in.
Walls aren’t built in a day. When Nehemiah led the people to rebuild Jerusalem’s walls, it happened stone by stone. “So built we the wall; and all the wall was joined together unto the half thereof: for the people had a mind to work.”
Self-control is built the same way. Each time you choose obedience over impulse, you lay one brick. One kind word instead of a sharp one. One “no” to the extra plate. One prayer instead of one more scroll. Each brick seems small. Together they make a wall.
The days before Christmas can wear us down. Don’t try to fix everything at once. Lay one brick today.
Read it yourself
Read Nehemiah 4:6–9. What did the people do when they heard their enemies were plotting?
Where is there a gap in your walls right now, and what one brick could you lay today?
Lord, give me a mind to work. Help me build one brick of obedience at a time. Amen.
