Nobody Overeats Steak
“Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.”Isaiah 55:2 (KJV)
Nobody sits down and overeats steak. It fills you up, and you stop. But a bag of chips can disappear without you noticing, and you still want more. Some things satisfy. Some only tease.
A lot of our habits work like chips. Scrolling, bingeing, endless background noise. We keep going because they never actually fill us. Meanwhile, the things that would satisfy, real conversations, meaningful work, time with God, sit untouched.
God asked his people the same question long ago. “Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.”
He promises to feed us well: “For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.” Notice what you reach for when you are restless. Then try reaching for something that actually fills.
Read it yourself
Read Isaiah 55:1–3. What is the price of what God offers?
What in your life is chips, and what is steak?
Lord, you satisfy the longing soul. Teach me to stop spending myself on what doesn’t fill. Amen.
