Loved by the One You Wronged
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”Romans 5:8 (KJV)
Picture a husband who let a suspicion get the better of him and said things he shouldn’t have. Later he saw how wrong he was, came home and confessed. And his wife took him back. He says he loves her more deeply now than before, because he knows he didn’t deserve her mercy.
Jesus said something like that about a woman who washed his feet with her tears. “Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.”
The more we see what we have been forgiven, the more we love. That is why the gospel never gets old for people who really understand it. “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
We wronged God, and he took us back. Not after we cleaned ourselves up, but while we were still sinners. Let that sink in today, and let it grow your love for him.

Read Luke 7:36–50. What did Simon fail to do that the woman did?
Do you feel like someone who has been forgiven much, or little? How does that show in your love for God?
Lord, you loved me while I was still a sinner. Thank you for taking me back. Let my love for you grow as I see how much you’ve forgiven. Amen.
