Knowledge Puffeth Up

“Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.”1 Corinthians 8:1 (KJV)

It is possible to be very well informed and not very wise. A shelf full of Christian books, a phone full of sermon notes, a Bible with every other verse highlighted. All of it can make you feel secure while your life stays exactly the same.

Paul warned about it: “Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.” Knowledge on its own inflates us. Love, put into action, builds something.

Jesus asked a hard question: “And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?” Then he described the person who hears and does: “He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it.”

You probably don’t need another book right now. You need to do one thing from the last one. Pick a truth you already know, and put it into practice this week.

Read it yourself

Read Luke 6:46–49. What happened to the house built without a foundation?

Reflect

What is one truth you already know well but haven’t put into practice?

Pray

Lord, I don’t want to be puffed up. Help me do what you say, and build my life on the rock. Amen.

Every verse is quoted from the King James Bible and checked word for word. Open your Bible beside it and count it yourself.
