In Deed and in Truth

“My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.”1 John 3:18 (KJV)

“I love you” is one of the easiest things to say. It costs nothing. It takes a second. You can say it on your way out the door without even looking up.

Love that costs something looks different. Doing the dishes when it isn’t your turn. Vacuuming the floor without being asked. Putting your phone down when someone is talking to you. Small, inconvenient acts that take time and effort.

John says it plainly: “My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.” Words matter. But words without deeds wear thin.

As this month of work ends, put some of that work ethic into your home. Find one costly, ordinary way to love someone in deed this week.

Read it yourself

Read 1 John 3:16–18. How does John say we know what love is?

Reflect

What is one costly, practical way you could love someone at home this week?

Pray

Lord, you loved me in deed and in truth. Help me love my family the same way. Amen.

Every verse is quoted from the King James Bible and checked word for word. Open your Bible beside it and count it yourself.
