Immortal Until the Work Is Done
“My times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me.”Psalm 31:15 (KJV)
A missionary once said that he was immortal until his work for God was done. It sounds bold, maybe even reckless. But it comes from a deep trust that our days are not random.
David prayed it in a dangerous season: “My times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies.” Not in the enemies’ hand. Not in luck’s hand. In God’s.
Jesus could say at the end of his life, “I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.” Paul, facing prison and danger, said, “none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy.”
That kind of courage doesn’t come from thinking nothing bad will happen. It comes from knowing that God has given you a work, that your times are in his hand, and that nothing can stop the assignment before he says it is finished. You can live boldly on that.
Read it yourself
Read Acts 20:17–24. What did Paul say he was willing to lose, and what did he want to finish?
What would you do differently if you truly believed your times are in God’s hand?
Father, my times are in your hand. Give me courage to finish the work you’ve given me, with joy. Amen.
