Her Glory at His Feet
“And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.”Luke 7:37–38 (KJV)
A woman walked into a Pharisee’s house where she was not welcome. Luke calls her “a woman in the city, which was a sinner.” She knelt behind Jesus, weeping, and “began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head.”
Paul later wrote, “if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her.” Think about what she did with her glory. She laid it at the feet of Jesus and used it to wipe away the dust of the road. Nothing she had was too good for him.
The room judged her. Jesus didn’t. “Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much.” Then he spoke to her directly: “Thy sins are forgiven.”
Gratitude like hers doesn’t hold back the best part for itself. It puts its glory down at his feet. What is your glory, the thing you are proudest of? It belongs there too.
Read it yourself
Read Luke 7:36–50. Compare what Simon the Pharisee did not do for Jesus with what the woman did.
What is the best thing you have, and what would it look like to lay it at the feet of Jesus?
Lord Jesus, you forgave me much. Take the best of what I have and let it be used for you. Amen.
