He Shall Testify of Me

“But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:”John 15:26 (KJV)

When Jesus told his disciples he was leaving, he promised them a Comforter. And he told them exactly what that Comforter would do.

“But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me.” The Spirit’s work points to Jesus.

He said it again: “He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.” And, “he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”

That gives us a simple way to know the Spirit is at work. He makes much of Christ. He brings his words to mind. He doesn’t lead us away from Jesus into something new and strange. When you open Scripture and Christ becomes clearer, bigger and more beautiful, that is the Spirit of truth doing what Jesus said he would.

Read it yourself

Read John 16:7–15. What does Jesus say the Spirit will reprove the world of?

Reflect

Is Christ becoming clearer to you as you read? Ask the Spirit to show you more of him.

Pray

Holy Spirit, testify of Jesus to me. Bring his words to my remembrance and glorify him in my life. Amen.
