Filled for the Work
“And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, To devise cunning works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, And in cutting of stones, to set them, and in carving of timber, to work in all manner of workmanship.”Exodus 31:3–5 (KJV)
When God gave instructions for the tabernacle, he didn’t only name the priests. He named a craftsman. Of Bezaleel he said, “And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship.”
The work was specific: “To devise cunning works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, And in cutting of stones, to set them, and in carving of timber, to work in all manner of workmanship.” God filled a craftsman with his Spirit for the work of his hands.
Work done in the place where your gifts, your love for the work and the needs around you meet tends to give energy instead of draining it. That is no accident. God made you for work, and he fills people for it.
Don’t dream only of the day you can stop working. Ask God to show you the work he filled you for, and do it as long as he gives you breath.
Read it yourself
Read Exodus 31:1–11. Who else did God give to work with Bezaleel, and what did he put in their hearts?
Where do your gifts, your joys and the needs around you overlap?
Lord, fill me for the work you’ve given me. Let me do it with skill, and for your glory. Amen.
