Do All to the Glory of God

“Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.”1 Corinthians 10:31 (KJV)

We like to keep life in boxes: spiritual life over here, health over there. But we are not built in boxes. When the body is run-down, prayer gets harder. When the soul is restless, we eat and sleep worse. Each part affects the others.

Paul doesn’t leave any part of life outside of God’s reach: “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” Even a meal can be worship.

Jesus himself lived as a whole person. “And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.” His body, his time and his prayer were all given to the Father.

Caring for your body isn’t a side project. It is part of being able to show up well for God and for the people you love. And caring for your soul helps your body too.

Read it yourself

Read 1 Corinthians 10:23–33. Whose good does Paul say we should seek?

Reflect

Which part of your life have you been keeping in a separate box from God?

Pray

Lord, I give you all of me, body and soul. Let even my eating and drinking bring you glory. Amen.
