Different Gifts, Same Calling

“Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;”Romans 12:6 (KJV)

Some people love risk. They start businesses, sleep badly and wouldn’t have it any other way. Others thrive on steady work, a good team and a paycheque that comes on time. Our culture tends to treat the first group as the real success stories. Scripture doesn’t.

Paul describes the church as a body: “But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.” The hand doesn’t envy the foot. Each part is placed on purpose.

“Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us,” Paul says, use them. Differing gifts. Not better and worse gifts.

Success isn’t one shape. It is using what God gave you to build something useful, living the life he has called you to and not chasing more just for the sake of more at the cost of home. The founder and the employee can both be exactly where God placed them.

Read it yourself

Read Romans 12:3–8. What does Paul say we should not think of ourselves?

Reflect

Have you been measuring your work against someone else’s calling instead of your own?

Pray

Lord, you have set me where it pleased you. Help me use my gifts well and stop envying gifts you gave to others. Amen.
