Comfort You Can Pass On
“Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.”2 Corinthians 1:3–4 (KJV)
We usually think of stewardship in terms of money, time and gifts. But your pain is something you steward too. The losses, the failures, the long seasons of struggle. They are part of what God has entrusted to you.
Paul saw it that way. He called God “the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.”
The comfort you received in your worst moment wasn’t meant to stop with you. Someone else is going through what you went through. You know what helped and what didn’t. You know that God was there.
In your work, in your church, in your neighbourhood, there are people who need what you learned the hard way. Don’t waste your pain. Pass on the comfort.
Read it yourself
Read 2 Corinthians 1:3–7. What does Paul say abounds in us as the sufferings of Christ abound?
Who around you is going through something you have already walked through?
God of all comfort, thank you for comforting me. Show me who needs that comfort now, and help me pass it on. Amen.
