Change the Soil
“A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.”Luke 6:45 (KJV)
Every word we say at home is a seed. A sharp comment to a child, a sarcastic line to a spouse, a dismissive word to a teenager. They get planted, and they grow, whether we meant them to or not.
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” Words build up and words tear down. Most of us know that, so we try to filter what comes out. We bite our tongue, we count to ten. That helps, but a filter only trims the sprout.
Jesus went to the root. “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good… for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.” What comes out of the mouth grows in the heart first.
That is why the real answer is a new heart, and God promised exactly that: “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you.” Ask him to change the soil, and the words will change too.

What kind of seeds have your words been planting at home lately?
Lord, change the soil of my heart, so that what comes out of my mouth gives life. Amen.
