Build the Week Before the Number
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”Matthew 6:33 (KJV)
Most of us set work goals backwards. We pick a number, an income, a target, and then let the hours fall wherever the number needs them. Family, rest and time with God get whatever is left over, which is usually not much.
Jesus gives a different order: “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” First things first. Not first in theory, but first on the calendar.
Try this before the year gets busy. Draw the week you would want to live: time with God, time at the table, time to rest. Then look at the hours that remain and ask what work fits there faithfully. Let the number come out of the life, instead of the life being squeezed to fit the number.
It may feel like a risk. But Jesus didn’t tell us to seek first and hope for the best. He said the rest would be added.
Read it yourself
Read Matthew 6:25–34. Circle every time Jesus tells his listeners not to worry or “take no thought.”
If someone only looked at your calendar from last week, what would they say comes first in your life?
Father, I want your kingdom first, not just in what I say but in how I spend my week. Show me where to start. Amen.
