A Game With No Rules
“The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.”Psalm 16:6 (KJV)
Try playing a board game with no rules. Anyone can move anywhere, take anything, win whenever they want. It isn’t fun. It’s chaos. The rules are what make the game worth playing.
Or give a child all the ice cream he wants. For an hour he’s thrilled. Then he’s sick, and he misses the fun the next day. Boundaries don’t take away the joy. They protect it.
David saw God’s boundaries as a gift: “The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.” And the psalmist connects God’s commands with freedom, not bondage: “And I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts.”
This month we think about freedom. Real freedom isn’t doing whatever you want. It is living inside the lines God drew, where life actually works.
Read it yourself
Read Psalm 119:41–48. What does the psalmist say he will do with God’s commandments?
Which of God’s boundaries have you been treating as a restriction instead of a gift?
Lord, thank you for the lines you’ve drawn. Help me walk at liberty by seeking your ways. Amen.
